Anela Gutierrez is the President and founder of Event Designers
International, Inc. She was introduced to Maui’s Wedding
Profession when she started working as a Wedding Coordinator
seven years ago for one of Maui’s leading wedding coordinating
companies. With much encouragement from fellow wedding associates,
friends, and family, Anela pursued her own business venture.
She took over a company that was in business for eight prior
years. This company was called Hula Express. With Anela’s
creativeness and with the help of her staff, they expanded
this small prop rental business into the full service event
designing company it is today.
Prior to the wedding and event industry, Anela came to Maui
from San Francisco, California where she was born and raised.
She grew up around the wedding industry as her mother and
aunt were event designers themselves. They did everything
from flowers, designing wedding dresses, decorating, and even
making wedding cakes.
In the Bay Area, Anela was also a hula dancer and learned
from world renowned Kumu Hula, Mark Keali’I Ho’omalu.
When she moved to Maui she had the honor to dance hula and
have her photos taken to be used in Maui’s tourism industry.
You may find her photos in calendars, hula books, souvenirs
items, greeting cards, and various artworks.
Anela loved working as an Emergency Room Assistant in one
of the bay areas busy hospitals. Here, Anela learned to always
be on her toes. Think wisely and respond immediately. She
also worked with the troubled youth as a volunteer case worker
in both San Francisco County and in Santa Clara County where
she also worked in Juvenile Hall. Patience, understanding,
and tolerance are the virtues that were well practiced in
this position.
After moving to Maui, Anela worked for many years at the
beautiful Maui Marriott Resort in Kaanapali. Her most important
duty was working in the Guest Response Center where she used
her valuable customer service skills to resolve any guest
complaints. Anela received awards for bringing up the customer
satisfaction to extraordinary levels in just a matter of a
few months from her take over in Guest Response.
With great customer service skills, the ability to think
and act quickly, and possession of such important virtues,
Anela Gutierrez and her staff will make sure that your day
is a dream come true.
